Different women have breast augmentation surgery for many different reasons – but most women understand the feeling that the appearance of your breasts is important, to you, as a woman. They’re an integral part of your identity.
Feeling self-conscious about your breasts can have a really bad effect on your confidence. And this is no surprise because, when you think about it, your breasts are the physical embodiment of what it is to be female.
So, the decision to have breast augmentation is a very personal one – it’s about you, your body and your identity and it should be made by you.
Whatever your reasons for wanting to enhance your breasts – they may be different sizes, a little small or maybe suffering from the after effects of breastfeeding – it’s important to be honest with yourself and realistic about your desired look and feel.
We’ll give you the time and advice you need to make the right decision.
Procedure
Breast augmentation procedures (technically known as augmentation mammoplasty) vary from woman to woman depending on your reason for wanting breast enhancement and your desired look.
Once you have a firm idea of your desired result, our surgeon will go through different surgical options and recommend the best way to proceed to get the results you want.
These options will include:
- Type of implants (silicone gel or saline)
- Size of your implants
- Texture of your implants’ surface (rough or smooth)
- Shape of your implants (round or ‘tear drop’ shape)
- Placement of your implants (‘under the muscle’ or ‘in front of the muscle’)
- Location of the incisions
*note* We only use high quality TGA approved implants. Here are some links for further reading on the two products we use, Nagor and Silimed
Your surgeon will weigh these surgical options against your desired results, chest dimensions, breast characteristics and lifestyle. Together you can then make an informed, final agreement on your surgical options.
The entire breast augmentation procedure can generally be done in a day, with on average an hour of that in surgery, under anaesthesia. Our surgeon will create a pocket for each implant through a small incision in the skin. This is normally made in the crease where your breast meets your chest, but it can also be around your nipple or in your armpit.
In every case the resulting scar will be as inconspicuous as possible. Our surgeon will then seal all the bleeding points and insert your implant according to your pre-surgery discussions. We prefer to use Cohesive Silicone Gel Implants which are placed between your breast tissue and your chest muscle (‘in front of the muscle’), or between your chest muscle and your chest wall (‘under the muscle’).
Our surgeon will then make a final check for symmetry, make any final adjustments, administer antibiotics and long-acting local anaesthetic and close up your incisions.
And then you’ll wake up.
